Dr Kamila Hawthorne

  • Kamila Hawthorne is a GP and Trainer in central Cardiff, and a Reader in the Dept of Primary Care and Public Health at Cardiff University. She has recently been appointed as Director of Community Education for the new undergraduate MBBCh course being designed to start in 2013. She has been an examiner for the MRCGP examinations since 1997, and over the last 3 years has been closely involved in the development and implementation of the Clinical Skills Assessment module of the MRCGP. She serves on RCGP Council as SE Wales Faculty Representative.

Major research theme has been the development of techniques to measure disability caused by skin disease and currently involved in research in field of clinical decision taking. 1987-2009 Director of major programme of undergraduate and postgraduate dermatology education, including the Diploma in Clinical Dermatology, MSc in Dermatology and the international e-learning programme.

  • Has been a Senior Lecturer and Consultant in Infectious Diseases and General Medicine in Cardiff since 1994. He undertook his speciality training in London and Boston, USA. His major interest is in HIV Medicine & he is currently Hon. Secretary of the British HIV Association. He was President of the Cardiff Medical Society in 2007/08 & has been on the Society’s Committee for over 5 years.

  • Graduated from Cardiff Medical School in 1988. Joined Woodlands Medical Centre as a GP principal in 1994. Left Woodlands in 2008 to deal with a failing practice in the Rhondda on behalf of the RCT Primary Care Support Unit. In 2010 started work for Cardiff and Vale uLHB as a specialty doctor in Psychiatry.
